Biography
In 1981, State Representative Arthur
L. Turner was elected to his first term in the Illinois House. Currently
in his thirteenth term, Turner is Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives
and represents the 9th Legislative which is on the west side of Chicago.
The 2nd, 11th, 12th, 22nd, 24th, 25th, 27th, 28th and 42nd wards are in
his district.
In his two decades in the House, Turner has focused on the needs of not
just his constituents, but of all Illinoisans. He has chaired the Housing
Committee, served as Vice-Chair of the Higher Education Committee and worked
as a member of the Labor and Commerce, Energy and Environment, Consumer
Protection and Insurance Committees. He is known as the "Father of
the Affordable Housing Trust Funds Law," which he passed in 1990.
Turner was born in Chicago on December 2, 1950. He attended St. Mel High
School, graduating with honors, and went on to Illinois State University,
earning a B.S. in Business Administration and Lewis University, earning
a Master of Science in Social Justice. From 1973 to 1981, he worked as an
investigator for the Cook County State's Attorney.
Reflecting and honoring his commitment and hard work, Turner has received
numerous public service and civic awards, including:

Turner is a full-time legislator. He resides in the community where he was
born and raised with his wife Rosalyn and their two sons.
