Brandon W. Phelps serves as State Representative of the 118th District. By continuing to honor his family's long history of dedication to public service, Brandon is a strong voice for the citizens of Southern Illinois.

Working with legislators on both sides of the aisle to bring economic development and prosperity to downstate Illinois is Brandon's top priority. As an eight-year organizer for the Midwest Region of Laborers' International and a proud member of the AFL-CIO, Phelps has fought for the rights of working men and women throughout Illinois, including safe working conditions and fair wages. Brandon supports an increase in the minimum wage and is committed to working with business leaders to attract jobs to Southern Illinois.

Brandon is proud to be a part of the transition to energy independence, partnering with Southern Illinois farmers to make a better state and nation. In addition to fighting high electric rates, Brandon has worked to pass laws cracking down on methamphetamine production and distribution in Illinois.

Brandon is a member of the National Rifle Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Loyal Order of Moose, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and Chairman/Member of Ducks Unlimited. He is one of only 10 members in the nation to serve on the Executive Counsel of the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses, an arm of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation.

As an avid hunter and sportsman, Brandon has consistently fought for law-abiding citizens' Second Amendment rights and to protect the rights and traditions of Southern Illinois sportsmen. Brandon is proud to be the chief sponsor of the new law bringing concealed carry to Illinois. Under the new law, law-abiding residents can freely exercise their right to protect themselves and their families.

Brandon serves as Chairperson of the Public Utilities Committee, and is a member of the Appropriations–Higher Education, Energy, Environment, Health Care Licenses, Labor & Commerce, Public Safety: Police & Fire, and Veterans' Affairs committees.

Brandon is a lifelong resident of Southern Illinois. He graduated from Eldorado High School and received his bachelor's degree in political science from Eastern Illinois University. Brandon has one daughter, and he and his family are members of the Star General Baptist Church.

The 118th District includes all or portions of Alexander, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, and Union counties.
