Biography

State Representative Kevin McCarthy is serving his 8th term in the General Assembly. He represents the 37th Representative District, which includes all of Orland Hills as well as portions of Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Forest and unincorporated Frankfort Square.

Representative McCarthy is committed to remaining accessible and maintains a full-time constituent service office. He is dedicated to improving education, assisting seniors and increasing opportunities for our developmentally disabled citizens, and improving our state's dismal record of child support collection.

A former teacher, McCarthy understands the value of education. Since he was first elected in 1996, McCarthy has been successful in increasing state funding for our local schools. He has sponsored and passed legislation to raise our state education standards for public schools and to better prepare our children to compete in the global marketplace.

During the most recent session of the General Assembly, Rep. McCarthy served as Chairman of the House Personnel and Pensions Committee. Rep. McCarthy led the efforts to reform and modernize the public pension systems in Illinois. While the reform efforts must continue to move forward, Rep. McCarthy’s progress to date has been hailed by many groups throughout Illinois as the most significant advancement in many years.

During the 97th General Assembly Rep. McCarthy will serve as Chairman of the House Personnel and Pensions Committee, and will serve as a member of the Telecommunications Committee, Higher Education Committee and the Public Utilities Committee.

McCarthy holds a bachelor's degree from Chicago State University and a master's degree from DePaul University. He lives in Orland Park with his wife Judy. Rep. McCarthy has two children, Amy and Kevin John.
