State Rep. Frank J. Mautino represents the 76th District, which includes all or portions of Bureau, LaSalle, Livingston and Putnam counties. He has served as House Deputy Majority Leader since 2011.
Mautino is committed to supporting new business and economic development throughout the region. He recently supported the largest infrastructure plan in the state's history, helping to put thousands of Illinois residents to work on needed road construction and repair projects. Mautino knows continued infrastructure improvements will also spur economic development, encourage business growth and lead to new job creation.
As a budget leader in the House, Mautino has worked to force the state to be more fiscally responsible by preventing the state from spending beyond its means, meeting its obligations to provide services to Illinois residents, and paying its bills. Mautino knows that more responsible spending, reducing state debt and devoting resources to vital programs will give job-creating employers the confidence to create and retain jobs in Illinois.
In recent years, Mautino has voted to pay down nearly $4 billion in unpaid bills and require the state to fully fund its pension systems while protecting vital services that local residents depend on, like education, public safety, and programs for veterans and senior citizens, from devastating cuts. Because it is the right thing to do, Mautino has voted to cut lawmakers' pay, including his own, and forced lawmakers to work several days without pay.
Mautino respects the sacrifices our military and veterans and their families have made to protect our freedoms at home and abroad, especially soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice and veterans who have passed. To help protect soldiers and their families from the protests of hate groups, Mautino passed a law prohibiting hateful protests from being near the funerals and memorial services of soldiers. Mautino is working to strengthen the law to further expand the prohibited zone.
Mautino has been a leader in strengthening the education system in Illinois, authoring and passing reforms to the state's education system. In recent years, despite the financial challenges facing the state, Mautino pushed for the passage of budgets that prevent damaging cuts to our schools and instead increase needed funding for education. He knows there is much more work to do and he will continue fighting for greater state support for our schools to give children the resources they need to be successful.
Mautino is a native of Spring Valley, where he was born and raised. He and his wife are the parents of three children.
