JAKOBSSON TO HOST ANNUAL EARTH DAY ROUNDTABLE
Lawmaker Joins Sierra Club and Other Local Groups to Discuss Environmental Issues

CHAMPAIGN – State Rep. Naomi Jakobsson (D-Urbana), along with the Sierra Club East Central Illinois Prairie Group, will host an Earth Day Roundtable on Monday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Champaign Public Library located at 200 West Green Street in Champaign.

“With environmental and business issues now at the forefront of discussions across the nation, people are becoming more and more interested in the topics that will be discussed at our upcoming environmental roundtable,” Jakobsson said.  “I urge anyone with an interest in environmental issues to join our discussion on local businesses and their contributions to the green movement.”

Speakers will discuss this year’s theme of local business efforts to address sustainability.  Slated to speak at the roundtable discussion are representatives from Coca-Cola Bottling Company, McKinley Presby Hall (the first green student housing on UIUC campus), New Prairie Construction, Prairie Harvester, Inc., B. Lime: A Green Store, Rain Gardens and the Champaign-Urbana Green Business Association.  Each organization will make a short presentation with time for questions to follow.  Refreshments will also be served.

“The Sierra Club Prairie Group is pleased to sponsor the Earth Day Roundtable with Representative Naomi Jakobsson, who has always been a strong advocate for the environment,” Alice Englebretsen, Chapter Delegate and Treasurer of the Sierra Club Prairie Group, said.  “Since she first ran for office, she has shown 100 percent support for any environmental legislation the Sierra Club supports.”

This is the sixth year Jakobsson has hosted an Earth Day roundtable.  Past topics of discussion have included alternative fuels, recycling, resource conservation and the Mahomet Aquifer.

Jakobsson represents the 103rd district, which includes all of Urbana, most of Champaign and a section of Savoy.
