Fran Hurley is serving her second term representing the 35th District, which includes all or portions of Alsip, Merrionette Park, Oak Lawn, Orland Hills, Orland Park, Palos Heights, Palos Park and Worth and the Chicago neighborhoods of Beverly, Mount Greenwood, Washington Heights, Auburn Gresham and Morgan Park.
Fran's top priority is to remain open and accessible to local residents. She maintains constituent services offices in Chicago and Orland Hills and hosts events and seminars, coffee shop stops and extended office hours throughout her district to ensure that every resident can receive assistance with navigating state government.
As an active community volunteer and a mother who worked two jobs to send her children to college, Fran uses her experiences to find common-sense solutions to our state's challenges. Fran understands that these tough economic times have put a strain on family budgets. Fran will work to attract new businesses to our region to create jobs for local residents, and she supports job-training programs to retrain displaced workers for good-paying jobs in 21st century career paths.
Fran believes government must explore new, more efficient ways to deliver services and eliminate expensive layers of bureaucracy. During her first term in office, Fran supported budgets that significantly reduced the state's debt while preventing sweeping cuts to vital state services, including education and public safety. Fran knows that strong schools are critical to every community and are necessary to helping our children develop the skills they need to succeed in college and in their careers, and that every family deserves to live in a safe neighborhood.
Through civic involvement, Fran works to build stronger communities and create greater opportunities for all. She has been active in the Saint Christina Parish, Mount Greenwood Civic Association, and Y-Me Women's Softball Tournament. She is the former director of the Saint Christina Manna Program and has volunteered her time with the Ronald McDonald House at Christ Hospital, Misercordia, Kiwanis Club, PADS, Merrionette Park Youth Softball, and numerous local family benefits. In 2006, Fran received the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Mount Greenwood Civic Association. Fran was the 2014 recipient of the Beacon Therapeutic Brightest Light in Illinois award for her commitment to children and families.
Fran is a graduate of Saint Barnabas Elementary School, Mother McAuley High School, and Saint Xavier University. A full-time state legislator, she lives in Mount Greenwood and is the mother of three children. They are members of Saint Christina Parish.
