Biography

State Rep. Esther Golar has been a dedicated community leader, building local organizations and advocating for enhanced public safety to help improve the quality of life in the 6th District. She has been a coordinator for CAPS for the past 17 years, training residents to build friendlier and safer communities.

In addition to fighting for safer streets, Golar is an advocate for seniors and people with disabilities, quality classroom education, equal access to healthcare, and economic development. She received the Senator Penny Severns Memorial Award for her advocacy for people with disabilities, and the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Leadership Award.

Golar is chairperson of the Housing Committee, and she serves as a member of the House committees on Appropriations Human-Services, Elementary & Secondary Education, Personnel & Pensions, and Public Utilities.

Golar is a native of Chicago and attended Malcolm X College. Prior to her tenure as State Representative, she served as a member of the Robert Fulton Elementary Local School Council (1999-2006) and Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, Inc. (1998-2006).
