Biography

State Rep. Esther Golar has been a member of the General Assembly since her appointment in January 2006 to fill a vacancy in the 6th Representative District.

Golar spent the past sixteen years building local organizations and displaying the dedication and commitment needed to improve the quality of life in our community. As State Representative, Golar will use her relationships with local residents, law enforcement, area businesses, churches, school groups, and social service organizations to meet head-on the issues that matter most to the residents of the 6th District.

As a coordinator for the Chicago Police Department's Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS), Golar has worked with friends and neighbors to develop programs that enhance public safety throughout Chicago. Rep. Golar has also worked as a community organizer for the Chicago Alliance for Neighborhood Safety, which promotes crime prevention and public safety, through training, to build friendlier and safer communities.

Among her top legislative priorities, Golar will work to improve the quality of classroom instruction while attracting more public school teachers, advocate for more affordable health care, and work to improve public safety.

A lifelong resident of Chicago, Golar graduated from Richard T. Craine High School and was educated at Malcolm X College. She is an active member of Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago and has been awarded the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Leadership Award. Golar is also a community representative on the School Council at Robert Fulton Elementary. She currently resides in Chicago’s New City community and is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.

Rep. Golar is excited to put her extensive public safety and community service experience to work in Springfield.

The 6th Representative District is located on Chicago's south side and includes the neighborhoods of Englewood, Back of the Yards, Bridgeport, Chicago Lawn, New City, Canaryville and Fuller Park.
