Robyn Gabel has represented the people of the 18th District in the Illinois House of Representatives since 2010. During her time in the Legislature, she has become a leader in protecting and fostering the growth of children and women in Illinois and environmental stewardship.
Her current legislative priorities include accessible healthcare, protecting our natural resources, expanding renewable energy, education and economic development.
Gabel created new laws to increase the quality of healthcare by streamlining standards for certified community health care workers and designated stroke care centers. She is a leader in efforts to promote wind, solar and other renewable energy, and through her efforts, many barriers faced by community gardeners have been alleviated. She has argued in support of landmark reforms to help parents get the best education for special-needs children and for strict laws to protect young people from the dangers of tanning beds and from nicotine poisoning in e-cigarette liquids.
Her legislative record has won her recognition from the March of Dimes, Midwest Asian Health Association, the ARC of Illinois, Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force, the Illinois Public Health Association, and the Illinois Environmental Council, among others.
Before serving in the House of Representatives, Gabel was Executive Director of the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition from 1988 to 2010. She has a B.A. from Beloit College and a MSPH from the University of Illinois Chicago, School of Public Health. She also has an MJ in health law from Loyola University Chicago. Gabel resides in Evanston.
