A combat infantry veteran, Jerry F. Costello II served our country in Operation Desert Storm as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. His unit was one of the first called into action and his experiences in the Armed Forces have helped define his priorities and his desire to continue serving the public.

Jerry's commitment to our military is strong, and he is disgusted by the vile protests of hate groups that disrupt the funerals of fallen soldiers. One of his first actions in office was to introduce legislation strengthening the Let Them Rest in Peace Act to prohibit any protests within 1,000 feet of the funerals and memorial services of deceased soldiers, allowing families and friends to respectfully mourn with dignity.

Following his military service, Jerry spent time as a patrolman and assistant police chief. His background in law enforcement has helped him become a strong advocate for legislation protecting the residents of the 116th District from sexual predators and the dangers of methamphetamine and heroin.

Jerry is Senior Vice President of the Huntleigh Securities Corporation, where he works as a financial advisor. With his financial experience, Jerry is a strong voice for improving the long-term fiscal integrity of the state. He is working to bring government costs down by requiring state programs to run more effectively and efficiently, and helping ensure local residents are getting the best return on their tax dollars. He knows state government must live within its means and stop forcing taxpayers to give up more of their hard-earned income. Jerry opposes tax increases on middle-class families and he believes wasteful spending in Springfield must come to an end. He also knows every effort should be made to prevent unjustified utility rate increases for consumers who have little choice in who provides their utility services.

Job creation is a top priority for Costello. He believes the state should invest in companies that make a commitment to Illinois workers, not out-of-state companies looking to move local jobs overseas. To lay the groundwork for new economic growth, Jerry supports expanding the coal and agriculture industries that are vital to Southern and Southwestern Illinois. He believes our vibrant and strong communities provide a great place to live, worship and raise a family.

An avid outdoorsman, Jerry has fought to protect our hunting, fishing and outdoor traditions and defend our Second Amendment rights. He has sponsored several bills which expand access to outdoor activities, and he was one of the lead sponsors in passing Illinois' concealed carry law. Recognizing the economic impact of outdoor recreation in Southwestern Illinois, Jerry supports the World Shooting Complex in Sparta and efforts to improve the world-class destination.

Jerry believes marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman, and he fights for the rights of the unborn. He supports efforts to ensure state aid programs and taxpayer dollars do not benefit illegal immigrants.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Jerry is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Laborers International Union of North America, and a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Jerry and his wife are the proud parents of three children. They reside in Smithton and attend St. John's Church in Smithton.
