Biography

Annazette Collins is currently in her sixth term as State Representative for the 10th Representative District. The 10th District is located on Chicago's West Side, bordered roughly by Kostner Avenue (west), Ashland Avenue (east), Dickens Avenue (north), and the Eisenhower Expressway (south). Representative Collins is committed to serving the working families of the 10th District. Her legislative priorities include improving the quality of education in the City of Chicago, expanding access to quality health care, working to raise the age of majority for juveniles and to reform the juvenile justice system.

On education, Collins has pledged to support measures that increase funding to city schools. She will work to insure that students in her district have access to safe and disciplined learning environments.

An advocate for affordable health care, Collins co-sponsored the Family Care initiative, which would provide health insurance to the working parents of KidCare-eligible children. Collins also believes that HMO's should be held accountable to the public. That's why she fought for legislation that would allow patients to sue HMO's for harmful or delayed medical decisions.

Collins is the chief sponsor of adoption reform legislation that allows godparents and second cousins to adopt children in the custody of DCFS. She continues to support similar measures that will move children out of state custody and into healthy family environments.

Representative Collins received her bachelor's degree in sociology from Chicago State University. She received an M.S. in Criminal Justice and has completed further graduate work in counseling from Chicago State University.

Representative Collins lives on Chicago's West Side with her husband Keith Langston and daughters Angelique Nicole and Taylor Kourtnie.
