System Biography Mike Boland is serving his eighth term as the State Representative from the 71st District, which includes the counties of Rock Island, Carroll, Henry and Whiteside. Throughout his legislative career, Boland has been a vocal leader on consumer protection issues in Illinois. He was one of the founders of the Citizens’ Utility Board (CUB), a consumer protection watchdog organization, and served on its Board of Directors for 10 years, including two terms as Vice-President. Boland is currently sponsoring legislation to expand property tax relief to more veterans and persons with disabilities. Boland has always been a strong advocate for election reform, ensuring that the residents of Illinois can have faith in their democratic process. In the past he has sponsored legislation to update voting equipment and to make voting more accessible to seniors. This year Boland is spearheading efforts to make it easier for public questions to be placed on the ballot. He is also sponsoring a measure to reduce the state’s energy consumption while saving taxpayer dollars by making Illinois more energy efficient. Mike Boland was born on August 20, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa. Representative Boland is married and has two daughters, a grandson and a granddaughter. He is a former teacher with the East Moline school district and remains an active member of his community. Boland served several years on the East Moline Library Board and was also elected to the United Township High School Board of Education. In 1976, he became a member of the East Moline Bicentennial Committee. Boland was elected as an alternate delegate to the Democratic National Midterm Election Convention in 1978 and as a delegate the Democratic National Presidential Nominating Convention in 1980 and 2000.
